8/29/11
Well The California Senate has dealt a serious blow to the California Film and TV Tax Credit Program which means the following:
1. They are killing a jobs program which is exactly what this country and the State of California needs in order to get back up on our knee’s
2. They (The Senate) have essentially said that they don’t think that the film industry in California is worth keeping
3. They don’t care or realize that many of us already spend many months away from home working in the states that do have a tax incentive program for filming
I could go on and on, but they are basically dealing a death blow to us. The result of losing this program will be catastrophic unless we do something by the end of this week!
Whats happened is that the bill (AB1069) to extend the tax credits another 5 years that was written by Assembly Felipe Fuentes was passed by The California Assembly 72-1 in favor of moving this bill to a Senate committee, that commitee vote 9-zip in favor of moving it to The Senate Appropriations Committee to then pass it to the full California Senate for ratification which would then send it to Gov. Jerry Brown’s desk for signage.
What the Senate has done is the following:
They have agreed to extend the bill for only one more year with what they call triggers (which I won’t get into).
By only agreeing to extend this bill for another year has essentially killed this program.
Once producers find out that there is only a year left in the California program, it gives them all the more reason to look to other states to get their tax credit program
What can YOU do to change things?
You need to write a letter to Senator Darrell Steinberg and say the following:
RE: AB 1069
Dear Senator Steinberg:
I work in the motion picture and television industry. I have seen a huge reduction in my work and do not want to move out of California. I love my state and hope that the California legislators understand the impact that losing our indigenous industry has created tremendous hardship for hundreds of thousands of Californians. Our working families have held well-paying jobs for more than 100 years, raised generations of well-educated children and created ancillary business that support the tax base.
Please vote to extend AB 1069, the California Film Tax Incentive for another 3 years.
Sincerely,
Here is Senator Steinbergs address:
